Who we are
About El-Awda
Counseling Services
At El-Awda Counseling Services, we are committed to guiding individuals through a transformative journey of healing and hope. Our name, El-Awda—Arabic for "the return"—reflects our mission to help people rediscover their sense of self, reconnect with their roots, and build resilience. We recognize the unique struggles faced by those displaced by conflict, loss, or identity crises and offer culturally sensitive, trauma-informed guidance to empower every step of their return to wholeness.
Whether you are navigating the complexities of displacement, seeking clarity amidst life's challenges, or striving for personal growth, we strive to meet you where you are. At El-Awda, we believe that healing is a journey, not a destination, and we are honored to walk this path with you.

About Me
Hello/Marhaba!
I’m Lilian Sayegh, founder of El-Awda Counseling Services. As a Syrian refugee, I draw from my personal journey through trauma and forced displacement to guide others on their path to healing and self-discovery. Having lived through the trauma of war and displacement, I understand the complex emotional challenges that many individuals face, especially when dealing with issues of identity, belonging, and recovery; I bring both empathy and insight to support those navigating similar struggles.
I hold a Bachelor’s in Psychology with a focus on Human Development and Counseling from Simon Fraser University and am in my second year of a Master’s in Counseling Psychology at Yorkville University. With over 7 years of experience in diverse fields like child and youth services, behavioral intervention, educational support, and settlement and humanitarian aid, suicide crisis intervention, I specialize in trauma-informed care.
My approach combines evidence-based practices like Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness, while addressing the unique challenges faced by immigrants, refugees, and those experiencing displacement.
